Are you looking for weight loss tips? Well, we can’t blame you for that. Who doesn’t want to lose weight and look sexy? This is one of the most common New Year’s resolutions you see every year. But why are there people who start really well then gets lost in the process? How come only a few earn their goals of losing weight? Here are some tips to help you.
Weight Loss Tips
- Write down your goal and be SMART. It’s easy to make goals but the reason why goals are not met is because it’s not a SMART goal. Remember to make Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely goals. An example of a SMART goal is, “By the end of seven days, I will lose one pound thru a 60 minute jogging thrice a week.” Be as specific as possible. Include numbers such as how many pounds you’d like to lose and provide a time frame and a specific activity you will surely do. Do not write something you are not willing to achieve. Make short and long term goals. Set a time every week or every month and evaluate your goals. If you love art, take some pictures or make a scrapbook for your goal.
- Make an activity or to-do list and post it. List as many activities as you’d like to do and DO IT. Do not list something like, “Stay away from fast food if you can’t really do it.” You can substitute it by saying, “I will eat in fast food chains only once a week.” Be creative, put some picture of what and what not to avoid. Post your list somewhere you can see every day, before sleeping or before going out for work.
- Start light. There is no such thing as losing weight fast. Everybody goes through something really hard (because losing weight equals to not doing what you used to do). The problem with most people who want to lose weight is the idea of losing weight fast, and so they go on crash diets, over exercise, and the like. Take it slow. If you can’t do an hour of jogging thrice a week, start by brisk walking for 30 minutes a day. Condition your body and gradually increase your time or activity every week.
- Modify your lifestyle. Modifying your diet is not effective if you won’t modify your exercise or sleep regimen. The reason why I said this is because it’s never easy to lose weight because modifying your habit takes time. You can’t just give up pizza, pasta, rice or chocolates in a week. Revise your eating pattern, exercise regimen, etc. It takes a lot of discipline to modify something we are used to but if you really want to live up to your goal of losing weight, it would make it easier for you.
- Find a weight loss buddy. Find someone with the same goal as you. It can be your friend, your boyfriend, brother or someone from work or from the gym. It feels good to have someone with you in the process of losing weight. You can draw inspiration from one another. Online support groups are also available. Find one that fits you.
- Eat healthy. Nothing beats indulging yourself in a healthy diet. A healthy diet is a balanced diet with all the carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, minerals and fats you need. Yes, you need fats too. The reason why people try fad diets is because of the false assumption that they will lose weight faster. When you go on fad diets, you are depriving your body of the needed nutrients to function normally. Eating healthy also means knowing how many calories you need so you won’t overeat. Eating foods rich in fiber like fruits and greens are also good for digestion. Why not try them?
- Exercise. Healthy eating and exercise are partners. You may be eating healthy but you may not be burning the calories. You may be exercising perfectly but depriving yourself with food to help you feel more energized. Keep it balanced. Find an exercise that suits you. If you love running, run. If you love the gym, go to the gym. If biking is for you, then go cycling. Remember to do something you really love so you can enjoy it while losing weight. Don’t force yourself into an activity you don’t feel like doing.
- Everybody is different. Keep in mind that everyone has different metabolic rates, body composition and lifestyle. Your weight loss buddy may lose weight faster than you. Do not lose hope. Some people do lose weight faster than others. Over time, you can increase your activity so you can lose more weight or cut off a portion of your meal and substitute it with a healthier one.
- Stay away from temptation. Yes. If your weakness is food high in sugar and trans fat, stay away from them. If you love burgers from McDonald’s make a commitment to avoid them or if you can’t, make a bargain with yourself. Instead of the quarter pounder you used to order, why not go for the regular cheeseburger this time. Instead of ordering large Coke, why not get yourself some water to avoid the calories and sugar in the soda.
- Be consistent and reward yourself. Most people who are planning to lose weight are only consistent during the first two or four weeks. If they don’t find any change, they give up easily and end up doing their old habits. Believe me; you can’t see change that fast in two weeks. The same reason why you have to make smart goals and live up to your goals and the activities under it to be consistent. Reward yourself with something you really love if you achieve one goal every week. Try going to movies or buying a new dress when your goal of losing 4 pounds a month is met. Take pictures of yourself and evaluate each picture every month, if there is progress buy yourself a new dress, a book or a gadget that would help you lose more weight.
With all these weight loss tips, you may also invest on dietary supplements. There are products such as Proactol that can help you lose weight naturally. While effects of the product may vary from one person to another, this all natural weight loss pill is the way to go.
