Causes of Infertility – 10 Causes According to 4 Different General Categories

There are various causes of infertility. Though in some cases, the causes cannot be established since the sperm has the same motility and quality. It pays to find out what these root causes are to be able to cope with the condition,

The most common causes of infertility among men result from low sperm count and poor quality of sperm.  Other causes are hormonal imbalances, genetics and anatomical problem. These ones will be discussed better in the succeeding paragraphs.

Causes of Infertility

Abnormalities in Sperm Count – Causing Male Fertility Problems

Sperm deficiencies are due to some factors such as congenital defects, lifestyle habits, exposure to chemicals and exposure to chemicals.  The following are abnormalities of the sperm:

1.   Low Sperm Count. This happens when the sperm count is lower than 20 million for every milliliter. If there is completely no sperm during ejaculation we call it Azoospermia. There are 10 to 15 percent of male infertility problems that result from low sperm count.

2.   Poor Sperm Motility. This is the inability of the sperm to make movements. If the movement of the sperm poses a lower measure or it does not move in a straighter line, the sperm is said to be of poor motility.

3.   Abnormal Sperm Morphology. This refers to the structure as well as the shape of the sperm. The sperm structure should have an oval-shaped head and a longer tail. Abnormal shaped sperm cannot fertilize an egg.

4.   Retrograde Ejaculation. This is when the sperm abnormally moves backward to the bladder. The supposed movement is going in front of the urethra. This is due to the malfunctioning of the bladder wall during orgasm. In here the quality of the sperm gets impaired thus resulting to infertility. Retrograde ejaculation is due to surgery of either the lower part of the bladder or sometimes the prostate. It can also be due to spinal cord injury, aging and diabetes.

Structural Abnormalities as Causes of Infertility

Structural abnormalities causing damage or blocking the tubes, testes and other reproductive structures may result to infertility. Here are some of these said abnormalities:

1.   Cryptorchidism. This condition is often reflected by newborn infants. It is one ailment wherein the testicles fail to go down from the abdominal part to the scrotum. This will impair sperm production.

2.   Hypospadias. Known as a birth defect, this is a condition in which the opening of the urinary tract is found on the bottom part of the penis. This condition can then prevent the sperm in reaching a female’s cervix. This birth defect can only be treated through surgery.

3.   Blockages present in the tubes. The tubes help transport sperm. When they are blocked, then they can affect male fertility. Sadly, some men are born to have a blockage in their ejaculatory ducts. Some don’t have vas deferens that should carry the sperm out from the testicles and off to the penis.

Hormonal Deficiencies as

Hormonal deficiencies also affect fertility. Hypogonadism is considered as a severe or aggravated deficiency in the so-called gonadotropin–releasing hormone or GnRH. This hormone signals testosterone and other reproductive hormone release. Low testosterone levels will surely result in sperm production defects.

Genetic Disorders as Causes of Infertility

As mentioned, genetic disorders can also result to infertility. There are several conditions that may arise from this and these are:

1.   Cystic Fibrosis can result to missing as well as blocked vas deferens which carries the sperm.

2.   Polycystic kidney disease is also one of the genetic disorders causing infertility. This can happen if cysts will develop inside the reproductive tract.

3.   Klinefelter syndrome may lead to the impairment of the lining found on the seminiferous tubules located in the testicles. This can happen during puberty.

Other Causes of Infertility

Besides structural abnormalities, hormonal imbalances and genetic disorders, here are other causes to infertility:

1.   Kartagener Syndrome. This is a condition that causes impairment of sperm motility.

2.   Sexual problems like erectile dysfunction, ejaculation difficulties, low libido or sexual desire can be a cause of infertility.

3.   Some medical conditions such as thyroid disease, diabetes may also affect fertility.

In order to cope with causes of infertility, it is wise to look for solutions out of the many treatments found in the market today. There are natural fertility supplements that can be of great help. One of which is called Semenax.
